Summer Walk 1

Half term was full of revision for us - two teens doing their A level exams leads to a pretty quiet half term for mum! Apart obviously from cooking, washing, clearing up, encouraging and cracking the whip a bit it was pretty uneventful.

I did try to get them out for a little while each day though to ensure a little balance and we discovered a new walk. Just outside Truro and perfect for a quick hours break, we visited a couple of times over the holiday.

It is a spit of land with tributaries of a river on either side, so you start off in quite dense woodland.

I love the sun through new leaves - Beech, Birch, Sweet Chestnut, Oak...

and fluffy, drifting Willow.

But the stars were the Oaks with their fabulous twisty and spreading forms...

creating a dappled roof as we walked.

The trees framed lovely views out across both rivers.

Grasses were flowering madly...

and a Spanish Broom gave a splash of yellow amongst the infinitely variable greens, and the sun showcased its gorgeous furry pods.

A beautiful Rhododendron, I suspect an escapee from a garden - it was very showy for a wild one.

Beautiful frothy Hawthorn...

and still some Bluebells too, for more bluebells see here.

Everywhere Bracken fronds erupted from the ground...

and stood in various stages of unfurl.

The view down the river to Point.

As we broke out of the woodland the long flat spit was alive with Thrift...

clinging to the mud and rocks.

This flat area with the green haze is a Samphire bed, covered in inch high Samphire spikes. Given a few weeks it should be a good crop.

Heading back to the woodland across the drifts of Thrift.

Back to the twisty Oaks...

some of which were hung with swings - I think we found 4.

Then a quick clamber down to the river in dappled sun before we set of home to the books again!

Fresh air is good for the brain, and the beauty of nature burgeoning and discovering a new favourite place is very good for the soul.

With that how can anyone fail.
